Hey y’all! It’s turtle here! What I’m going to talk about today is not something big, more of an add on than a huge change. My thought was that MCC should add friend notifications! I know I can’t speak for everyone here but when I hop on Minecraft central. The first thing I do is /friend list. Sometimes I have a bunch of friends on sometimes I have none, so I go play mini games and other sub servers by myself. Then, after about an hour I will do /friend list again and either everyone has gotten off or everyone is getting on. What I am asking for is that a notification saying (username) is online! Or (username) is offline when they hop off. With this however, there is a flaw. Some people have staff members as friends which is great! But some staff members don’t want to be bothered at certain times. So for that case we can add a /appearoffline command so that people who don’t want to be bothered can not be bothered. these are just some thoughts. Feel free to reply with your opinion and criticize me. have a wonderful day MCC, Your Pal, Turtle
Hey TurtleSoup123! I really like your idea, this is something that they already have added on Hypixel and i think it would be awesome if they could bring this to MCC. However I do see some problems with this, if you have a lot of friends on your friends list the chat could get flooded because of people logging off and on. I think this could be solved however by adding a simple command such as /friend list toggle or something a long those lines. +1 -Issel.
Hello! Way back in 2016 or 2017, when the friends system was first being added, it had this feature. You would be notified whenever a friend leaves or joins the server. However, they quickly took the friend system out, and it was out for a couple weeks or so, because it was causing lag. When it was brought back, it no longer said whenever someone joined or leaved on your friend list, so I assume that's what was causing the lag, or they just didn't want it for some other reason. I would love to see this feature added again, though, if they can find a way to make it not laggy. Whenever you see a friend join the server, if you're bored you can have something to do, and you won't have to constantly scan your friends list to see if anyone is online who you can play with. Overall +1 as long as it doesn't cause lag, if that was the issue with it when the friends list was temporarily removed.
Hey, There was a post regarding this, and I do not totally support it. Although this is a good idea, I do not support this for a few reasons. The first being how people can easily provoke others by leaving and rejoining the server. This not only can cause confusion but it can also be heavily abused. My second reasons being it can be really annoying. Not only can someone constantly leave and rejoin in seconds but the player with that person on their friends list can be easily annoyed. My third reasons being it isn't totally necessary. I have no trouble just doing /friend list (number) and it doesn't take too long for me to find someone to play with. My fourth reasons being it can cause a bit of lag. Like such, if someone has a lot of friends on their friends list and they can all log in at once, that is cause a ton of lag. Solution: My idea was to make a /friendjoin toggle. This can toggle the "join" command and reduce lag, and it wouldn't be annoying. If the solution can be included, overall a +1, but without it I can say a -1 Have a nice day! -FourNut
Hey there! I do like the general idea of adding notifications! There is one flaw I do see with this. Lots of people have over 7 pages of friends or more, and it would be extremely annoying if you were notified every time a friend got on. To add on, some of the people on my friends list, I don't play with them so I honestly don't care if their on or off. Also, said above, this could cause server lag which would be a problem that the staff would have to deal with, and with everything they already have to do, it seems like this would just be extra extra work. My suggestion, would be that you could enable and disable these notifications for friends, in a similar way in that your name is broadcast when you join a sub server or lobby with the rank of legend or higher. I believe this could stop a lot of the potential lag and this way people with lots of friends wouldn't be bombarded with notifications every time someone got on. Over all though, I like the general idea but I'm going to go with -0.5 Best of luck to you!
Hey there! Like others have said, if you have a lot of friends, it can get very "spammy" The general idea is really nice. Getting friends connected on the server, sounds very nice and it is. There should be a way of toggling it on and off, much like the correct /toggleannouncement system like 4Nut and Issel stated. What we could also do like other post have stated is make a best friend program where you can choose who exactly you want to receive the notifications from. Let's say you play with someone every day, you might prefer their notifs over someone you don't play with anymore. Have a great and safe day!
Hey, @TurtleSoup123! I agree with your topic/opinion I hope it will be analysed and implemented by the server owners. I'd be very grateful if that happened, I have a great list of friends and it gets a little boring to be always giving Friendlist to see who gets online or offline. +1
Hello there! This is actually a suggestion I brought up in my suggestion "A better social system" and after some feedback I realised the possible spam that could come from having a notification go off for every friend. A work around to this is by introducing a "best friend" system, where a player can choose who they want to receive join/leave notifications for. This will reduce spam and allow players to choose what days they want to see a players notifications or not, therefore giving more player accessibility and in my opinion, what we want as it's more friendly! :) Keep up the good work! - Elecctricc.
When MCC first added the friend system this was in place with it. This was removed due to constant spam in chat when people logged online. On the old forums this was actually voted to be removed.
I really like this idea. I think it would help the community grow a bigger bond, and it is an all-around nice feature to have! Another thing that could be added is a command to toggle this, something like /friendnotification off/on. I really like this idea as well. +1 FaithfulandFree
I agree with this suggestion because I do /friends to check too when I get on and sometimes after a bit too +1
Hey, Turtle. I like your suggestion, however, like people have pointed out there will be a few problems with this. There must be a command that can toggle off the announcement for when friends come online or go offline. If there isn't a way to toggle off the original addon then this will not be well-liked within the community as it will just spam you especially if you have tons of friends. There also needs to be a command to toggle on/off when you come online and go offline. I know that sometimes I don't feel like socialising as soon as I hop onto MCC. I just want to cruise around and do my own thing. If there isn't a command to disable your join messages being announced to your friends then every time you come online you'll get messaged by people which can be sometimes really annoying. Like you, a majority of the time when I log on I do /friends list to see if anyone I know is online but I'm only looking for a few specific people though. I love what @Elecctricc has suggested. By introducing a best-friend system this would make your suggestion for this addon very successful. Lastly, I'd like to comment on your idea of adding a command for staff members to appear offline through the friend's list. As an ex-Moderator, I love this suggestion and would love to see it introduced for all staff members. There were plenty of times where I felt like not dealing with people on my friend's list. As a staff member most of the time you're very busy and have to sometimes multitask quite a lot. For example, when you're in the middle of supervising an IRL deal and at the same time having to focus on chat then someone on your friend's list messages you and just wants to have a regular conversation. It gets very tiresome and difficult to focus on all three things at once. I was a nice staff member so I would end up responding to people who would message me even when I was dealing with multiple things at once but having the ability to appear offline when you're in situations like that would be so helpful. Thanks, Layne.
Hey, I feel like this could be a good idea, but like other said some people have really long friends list. I personally wouldn't like this, I have a pretty long friends list, and I wouldn't like to be notified every single time that someone gets on. Like Lxyne said about the feature for staff members having the option to appear offline. I like this because I feel like some people add staff members to get attention from them. Im sure it gets annoying after a while. If I were a staff member I wouldn't like to be followed around, messaged everyday, etc. I like that idea. But, i am not for friend notifications. Another idea is /ignore. I have seen a few posts regarding this idea. I feel like this would be good for the community so you can ignore anyone, such as people on you're friends list. Or even the option to appear offline would be good. Privacy is always good. Good idea, bu for me -0.5. Have a nice day! Thanks,
That sounds like a great idea and I totally agree. This is a feature on Hypixel but I can see why MCC hasn't added it yet. Having something like that go off would probably be really lag inducing and hyipxel might be more powerful, so they can support that.
