Honestly, it seems like a terrible idea to add support for 1.14+ with the new swimming mechanic changes. This has pretty much ruined any pvp-related games that have water in them, now anyone using 1.14+ can swim just as fast as if they had Depth Strider. This puts anyone below 1.14 at a severe disadvantage when it comes to any form of water combat. In case anyone would like to see what I mean by this, here's a video of me chasing someone in the water, while I use 1.14.4 and they use 1.8: As you can clearly see, he had no chance of escaping as I easily out swam him. Users with 1.14 have a very blatant advantage when it comes to water. It's so blatant some may even call it hacks. I've even seen a few people get accused of using hacks while in the water, in fact, in the time it took me to take this recording alone I was accused of hacks myself. And I'm sure anyone who did this could EASILY be reported and false banned. No idea why MCC would even allow this, it's stupid. Adding support for 1.14 was a huge mistake.
I created a bug report about an hour ago showing this so alex can look into it. You can find it Here. I agree that it is a big disadvantage to players seeing most players play 1.8
About an hour ago I was still trying to get this footage Also it's not a bug, it's just the vanilla swimming mechanics.
its honestly so annoying how people on the newer versions can just escape from fights so quickly by just jumping in water and zooming away
Most people favour 1.8 pvp since its more fast paced and there is no delay. One thing im pretty sure they could do and which i think is a pretty good suggestion is making for example survival games in this situation have 2 supported versions basically that if you want to play in 1.14 with these new features that come with you play the 1.14 supported survival games. (Implying that they add 2 possible connections to survival games one which is 1.14 and the other 1.8) The difference i think clearly is that in 1.8 you dont have the swinging cooldown and is also what most of the people playing mcc i think like it. And i know for a fact that i do. Let me know what you think about this idea :)
I've seen people playing in 1.14 not being able to hit other people and when they swing it doesn't do anything.
Support for new clients is to make it easier to get new people. Believe me, with a version mismatch, a significant portion of people just move on to the next on the list. The problem it brings is 1.14 actually lags really hard, and the client side actions it takes dont match with the server, which leads to odd behavior from their side, like placing chests to have them disappear (since chests work different) or climbing up a water ladder being a stuttery mess (water climb speed has changed). And placing blocks while crouching makes you fall often. Overall that can give new playes a negative impression of the server, when all they need to do to fix the lag is switch to 1.89. That fact should be made more apparent- I think it's definitely needed to allow new clients, but a message when you connect that the old client is a better experience would be nice. Anyway about fixing the swimming part- idk how its happening, I was not able to get it to work on 1.14 on this server. Generally when something desyncs on client and server sides, from what I've seen there's no way to change the client behavior. Have you ever like broke melons really fast and got stuck in one? That's because it's gone on your client and still on the server, that's what a desync looks like, the server is not letting you into that block, but you keep falling down because you client thinks theres nothing there, you get position updates that try to put you back where you were. Unless someone more familiar with this topic can correct me, I think whatever would fix this would just cause a stutter mess when someone with a new client jumps into deep water. Just like when you try to place 2 of the same chests next to each other on the new client and it deletes as soon as you place, I dont think it's possible to make it so the new client behaves just like the old one, just to have the server reject things that aren't possible on 1.8 This is just what I've observed, I haven't touched modding mc since like 2011 and I've certianly never dealt with making a mismatched cleint work on a server. Overall if they cant fix this, you can just use the new client too if you think it gives an unfair advantage. Ofc you may experience hits not connecting and stuff, I don't pvp really but I did notice that on new client.
I'm sure that we all would if 1.14 had better PVP, but since the cooldown was added, no one who seriously pvps will use 1.9< because of the cooldown time for swinging a sword, it's much more preferred to click as fast as you can
Honestly you're right but I think that now that people on 1.14 get stuck in water people will be more inclined to play the better versions of mc, 1.8 upwards where the combat wasn't messed up.
As you saw in the video, I could swim fast without getting stuck in the water, or even lagging back for that matter.
Alex replied to the bug report I had made addressing this, and he has noted it down for it to be fixed.
I agree with you Ankh I believe it was a huge mistake to support 1.14+ because swimming. Its a huge advantage if you are chasing someone while you are on 1.14 and they are on 1.8. I think 1.14 shouldn't be supported on mcc.
A warning indicating 1.8.9 is recommended for this server should be considered. Also, I'm also concerned if the AC will detect the sprinting-in-water thingo to be cheating or Jesus hacks.
Based off of other servers ive seen that hold pvp areas which are also supported by 1.14, the server owner or whoever has the power can change to swinging delay to 0. This would effectively create similar pvp to 1.8, however, it would bring all for the benefits of 1.14. I believe that if the server is to add 1.14, seeing how different it is, they should fully commit to it or not add it at all
