Just because you 'want to', doesn't mean you should. Special characters, for the most part, are disabled for several reasons: -Easy to use for bypassing -Some special characters don't render properly -It can and does, make chat look ugly.
why does it matter that the chat look ugly? many people doesn't have english as their first language, using other languages besides english should be accepted, i've seen people speak spanish and portuguese which has no special characthers it really isn't fair. I believe it would be better if special characthers was removed or changed, the only problem with this as you said is rendering and bypassing.
i think the reason that the chat looks ugly when special characthers are used is not a reason, it's a preference for people, and i don't think anyones personal preferences goes before people actually being able to communicate with friends if they lack english skills. Since many people doesn't have english as their first language and might not be comfortable speaking it since they might get mocked or teased for it.
As Kieren explained the main reasons why we shouldn't be able to use special characters. It would be extremely hard to maintain the chat, since we simply would not understand the language. We wouldn't also be able to translate the text, as we can do so with ie. Portuguese or Spanish since the letters are the same as for majority of us. This would just cause people breaking the chat rules. You are allowed to speak another languages than English though, and you can speak many languages in the Latin alphabets. I also believe, that what Kieren meant with the point of chat being ugly is indeed that the special characters doesn't simply look the same in chat as Latin alphabets. Especially, since the chat is basically pixels. I appreciate every language, as the English isn't my first language either, but this isn't something that would simply be suitable for the server. Hey there! I'd suggest making a discord group chat so you can speak to your friends there. Special characters in chat allow people to bypass blacklisted words. They also "clog" chat, and make it seem extremely messy.
They won't add it because 1, you can easily bypass bad words and such and would be hard to understand whether they are actually or not. 2, It is hard for people to understand you and it would just fill up chat a lot. spanish is used with english letters and isn't a problem, rather with different languages like korean, it will make the chat all messy and almost all of the people won't understand accept a few who ARE korean. It would be hard to set up something were they don't know if one word is muteable and having to trust google translate (if they don't know the language) so it just wouldn't be practical to set up. -Present
They aren't gonna add this, but I thought I'd give my opinion anyway. One thing I don't like is that the server allows you to use the $ sign but not the £ or € signs which I think is really annoying but it is what it is. Having said that, I don't want characters to be able to be added due to the fact that they can be used for filter bypass and other things that break the rules.
