Hi, if you mean that you can't put a chest next to a double chest, then this is just a feature of 1.8. This was changed around 1.15ish I believe. If you alternate between chests and trapped chests then you can place them next to each other.
Hello. As @LeafyTiger24 said, the only way you can put chests next to each other is by alternating a trapped chest with a normal chest when in the older versions of Minecraft. You can make a trapped chest by using a tripwire hook and a chest on your workbench. The best way, if I might suggest you, is to put them all facing the right, as it saves more space and increases efficiency. I'll leave you some images below to aid you in further situations.
