    hi all,

i want to start recording videos of MCC for hackers and such, but i don't know what screen capture software is good for my mac. i have tried using quicktime player and obs but both drop my fps to around 45 when i record at 30 fps (usually runs at around 150) when i record and the recordings are always really laggy. my computer is a 13.3-inch MacBook Pro 2.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 with Retina display.

    computer specs:

13.3-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit display with IPS technology; 2560-by-1600 native resolution at 227 pixels per inch

    8GB of 2133MHz LPDDR3 onboard memory

    128GB PCIe-based onboard SSD1

    720p FaceTime HD Camera

    Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640

if you know what software would work or if i need to change my obs setting please let me know.
    thanks!

    Heynya!

Personally, I think OBS is as good as it gets, unless you get a paid service. If you are trying to catch hackers, 30-45 fps I think is fine. Staff watching the video can just pause the video for name tags. Try adjusting the bitrate on OBS a bit and experiment. Youtube videos are always the best medicine for tech problems.

    Meow? Bye!

hello! normally for a max i would suggest something like quicktimeplayer or obs. but since you had said it drops your fps.. i’ve heard nvidia is a good play back.. it gives you the past few seconds... there’s another one, but i forgot the name... of i believe it might have been called retro playback...

as well as, you don’t *always* need to be recording it takes up space and is poo to remember which videos were actual evidence and which were nothing...
with obs, i like to take advantage of the keybinds and only hit record when i see a hacker...

sorry this isn’t as insightful, but hope this helped :)

Yeah, in my opinion obs is the way to go. Not only is it easy to run it also has a replay system that hat I would highly recommend. It allows u to record the last 20 seconds of playtime at the hit of a button. It’s a great, well rounded software that is great for catching them hackers.

    ?
quicktimeplayer has always worked for me.. there could be time where you don’t select the correct window size or you don’t go to screen record... as there’s multiple options in quicktime... uh.. nani?

I only know that sometimes the app always crashes or doesn't actually record the screen for me but that's probably my MacBook being silly. Try it if it works of course

As the other people have already stated OBS is really the best one you can use especially for low spec, here is something that might help w/ the framerate:

Make sure your recording source is a Game Capture, not a Display Capture. The display capture puts much more strain on your PC especially when OBS is open. See this gif for making MC the only thing it records (make sure you have MC open): https://gyazo.com/02c2b745084ff5493472ebc20fb7200a
Note I actually selected the wrong window (oops) but you want to look for whatever minecraft.exe you are running and select OK with that, afterward you can use the red border around it to change how it captures in the main recording screen.

Also make sure OBS is minimized when you're recording as that can help too, please reply if there is still any trouble!

    Hey!
I'm not the greatest with MAC computers :/ but for recording youtube videos, OBS is a +1 from me. For clipping hackers, I would recommend you use MEDAL, its great for catching 30 second to 1 min clips and doesn't drop your FPS.
    Hope this helps!

    OBS: https://obsproject.com/download
MEDAL: https://medal.tv/download (Not 100% sure if this works on MAC)

I have a Mac computer myself, and I use Quick Time Player. There is a shortcut (Shift, cmnd, 5) to quickly record your screen! Its easy to use. and you can edit it using iMovie. Good luck C:

I've had a mac for over 6 years and am still trying to figure this recording thing out, I've been using screenflow for a long time but I don't recommend it as the file sizes are massive and it's difficult to use, I've tried quicktime and that also destroys my fps however recently i've been toying with OBS and from what I've seen so far, it works the best for me. I don't know too much about how your computer would handle obs because I know nothing about specs but I'd suggest you just google a bunch of mac screen recording softwares, and see what comes up.
But to cut to the chase, recently I switched to OBS and find it more efficient than anything else i've found out there as of now.
Also, when you record, make sure your settings are right- not only your recording settings, but your ingame settings, to try and maximize your fps the best you can, for the best results.

If you want to screen capture solely for the purpose of clipping cheater, I would recommend using replay buffer on obs. This method of recording runs in the background all the time but nothing's written on your laptop storage. You choose a certain length of time (5-20 seconds should suffice) and the clip will be held in your ram until you decide to save it (I would suggest allocating 256mb for a MacBook). Recording 30fps at 3000 bitrate should be enough.

Personally, I am a Mac user and have a ton of issues with everything ranging from audio to FPS to game version. And while I also suggest OBS, as it allows me a quick and easy way to record videos and to subsequently upload them to YouTube, I would like to provide you with a note of caution. If you would like to record audio as well as your screen, it will be very tricky, as Apple has issues regarding the privacy of audio use. So, if you would like to record audio, you will have to go through the very lengthy process of downloading and installing Soundflower. However, I did this and was still not able to record/broadcast audio, so you might have to mess with the settings until you find something that works for you.

    Hope this helps! :D

With obs, have you come across an issue where your video just comes out super fuzzy and blurry? And if so, how have to overcome this? I feel like I've toyed with my settings to the point where I've hit every combination of resolutions and settings and my videos still come out super blurry/fuzzy with obs (I can provide an example if you need)

Same goes for anyone else reading this.. has anyone come across this issue, and/or knows how to fix it?

Personally, I have not experienced this problem. Maybe it has something to do with the software on your Mac or the type of Mac you are using. Perhaps your computer's operating system is not updated to its fullest extent or the version of OBS that you are running is not the most recent. Once you record, in what way do you view the videos? Also, do you upload them to YouTube? That may be where you're running into issues concerning quality.

    Hope this helped! :D
