As of right now, it is pretty hard to get staff to spectate hackers. You have to firstly ping a staff member in discord (often times after you do this you are dead and you have lost loot), then you have to wait for about 10-15 minutes for a staff member to come and even then they might be too late. If this command is implemented it would send a message to the staff members that are on the network, and this would get them to assist you way easier.
I think it would be a great idea to have it implemented however, the staff believe otherwise. Their argument against it is that there would be 'too many false reports' but if every other server can manage, why can't MCC? I would love to have it in as trying to get Staff to watch hackers in-game is a tough task.
I believe this is a great idea, one problem tho, many people may just use it to annoy staff or use it for fun on random people, which could rather be less productive than letting staff know in the discord.
This is a great idea and I think this would greatly benefit the server as it would help a lot with the hacker problem(especially in the mini games), and in terms of people abusing this command or simply reporting people just to mess with the staff and waste their time, a simple solution to this could be a minor punishment such as a severity 1 ban or their access to the command being revoked for a short time could help.
Hey! I see your point, and that might seem like it's a good idea for players. However, I believe that the cons outweigh the pros. We already have a reports system, where players can reports rule breakers on our forums, and I believe it's efficient enough, so I don't think there is a reason to alter anything as of now. If you cannot upload a video for some reason, you'd still have the chance to get the hacker punished by providing us his/her IGN in #support, and a staff member will check it out. Adding another command just to get a hacker banned faster isn't a good reason to implement it. You'd see players abusing the system and falsely reporting players. Adding to that, we wouldn't be able to tell which player is trolling and which one simply doesn't know what hacks are. The system we are working on is fine right now, so modifying everything again just to get hackers banned faster isn't really a valid reason to implement this command. After all, it would greatly impact how we do things. You'd frequently see some chatreports undone for a couple of days or the other way around. We are humans, after all. It wouldn't be as "smooth" as you'd expect it to be.
Hey there, To be completely honest, I don't see the difficulty in recording and reporting hackers. It's really easy to download recording software, and some Minecraft mods even allow your game to be 'replayed' making catching hackers much easier. I agree a /report command would be helpful if executed correctly, but it would have to be done with immense planning and detail. My idea is that when a player is /reported, it would put their head into a GUI which staff could open up to see who's been /reported recently and for what reasons. If the staff were to hover over each head, it would give a timestamp and a location stamp to make it easier to spectate. When the player has been punished, the head could automatically be removed from the GUI without further staff interaction. There should obviously be a command cool-down to prevent abuse/spam as well. - Mike
I have already replied to a similar post here, and I feel like all the same points apply. I entirely agree with Scotian here, but there would still need to be major changes made to the command to make it feasible. Overall, -1 until a clear plan is set out.
Add ingame /report system to instantly alert staff to hackers instead of trying to go on discord and @staffmember etc etc etc.... Just add the system and stop messin around If people abuse the system add a punishment for it. 2 warnings then a tempban etc. Easy PDR
This could be a great command also make /chatreport into /cr but as people have said sometimes there will be false reports and therefore it’s wasting staff time which means they are spectating players which may not be hacking when they could be doing more useful stuff elsewhere. But I personally think /report should be a command and if one person gets more than 3 /reports it should be a notification that pops up to staff because if more than 3 people have reported a certain player it’s more than likely that they are hacking. Great thread idea @Kane -Stolsie <3
I understand your frustration. I have often wondered why this wasn’t added to the server. After becoming friends with some of the staff team I have started to understand why it was not though. The staff team already receives tons of DMs when they are online regarding hackers and they are usually quick to tend to them. A /report system would be supper busy and most of the reports are probably false and would be a waste of time. Your best bet is to tag a staffer in discord or report them with valid proof.
Hey Flam! This would be quite helpful sometimes! But an easy fix to this would just be to download a recorder. But if you don't have one or don't want to get one, having a staff at hand would be helpful! I do agree with everyone else though. People would abuse this power and it would annoy the crap out of staff. I think soon we will get a new anti-cheat system and this will become less of a problem. Thanks for taking the time to read this! - Cxltic_Warrior
A Simple solution of this issue would be to simply become friends with some staff members; by having staff members on your friends list you can /msgf one of them and have them directly come help you, without spending much time to do so. I've done this a few times to deal with hackers, however I typically just record then report on the forums. Yes I understand that by the time the staff gets their you may have lost items but it would be exceptionally faster than pinging them on discord. However, personally, I disagree with the suggestion you posted because how would it work? You said that it would send a message to staff online in the network, but if there are multiple staff members online (which there typically is or at least when I'm online), making it possible that more than one staff member may come, resulting in some staff having their time wasted. Again a much better way would be to simply have some staff members on your friends list so you can simply message one of them to come help. This would also solve the problem of a command like this being abused, cause most staff can simply remove you from their friends list if you waste their time. I Hope this helped.
Im just going to add 1 point onto this question Sometimes during the AU nighttime, around 8-11 AEDT, there is usually a staff shortage at this time. What if there are only helpers that are online and no mod+ are?. As helpers cannot ban/spec players what would happen?. The list would just continue building up like on the forums and on discord. Before I became helper, I also wondered why this wasn't a thing, but after becoming helper, its because of all the false reports players have off believing players hack. This could lead to many false reports wasting a staff members time in having to spectate a player whilst they could be banning other hackers. Another solution instead of this is to hopefully get a better anti-cheat which would take a load off the staff in which this could potentially be implemented. Thanks, Incarnati0n_
I agree with Akiro because it could help with getting people reported but I also believe a command would be easier so users but I would add more work to the staff members which is the downside so I really don't mind recording and reporting it on the forums. This was a great question though.
I've been staff on 3 medium-to-large servers that had /report and similar commands with varying amounts of success. I'm not gonna give specific server names, but I do want to give some insight on my experiences and how they relate to MCC. On the largest server out of the three, we had a few methods of reporting players and for how staff dealt with the reports. If I laid out the entirety of it here it'd sound extremely complicated, but in practice it was fairly simple. Since it was a big server at the time, there were hundreds of reports that didn't get tended to and from a staff's POV it was very messy. This caused some reports to be ignored for hours, sometimes days, which meant that they'd usually get auto-denied because the player was offline. Despite this, the main reason why this was such a big issue was because the server had upwards of 20,000 players on at one time, which MCC doesn't have. With MCC's current player counts, this would still be an issue, but it could be manageable if staff members were willing to put the time into it. I've been on the Reports team here on MCC and I have a general idea of how many reports + CRs there are on a daily basis, and it really isn't as bad as people make it seem. This differing POV is probably due to the overwhelming number of reports I had to handle on a daily basis on the bigger server. The other 2 servers I was staff on that had /report commands functioned very similarly, but both servers were smaller than MCC. One server had upwards of 1000 players on in it's prime but then dwindled to around 100, while the other server used to have 2000+ before going down to around 100 as well. When there were a lot of players on these servers, the reports automatically showed up on our feed and we could click the messages to automatically teleport to the subserver & player location. If the player was offline, we'd wait to see if they came online and if they didn't, we could ignore the report. The pros of this is that the reports weren't tracked like on the bigger server or like MCC's chat reports, meaning that there wasn't a massive backlog to deal with. The con of this is that if you missed the reports for whatever reason, you couldn't go back and find them. I personally prefer having reports tracked, but that doesn't mean it's objectively better. Having /report on a server and it's success varies greatly on how many active players there are on the server at a given time as well as how many people would actually use it properly. I don't think adding /report is a bad idea for MCC, and I've even suggested adding it in the past, but things like this are the reasons why it's never been added. Sure, you can punish players who use /report to troll, much like we currently do for abusing /chatreport, but backlog issues would still be a problem. Incarnation also brought up a good point about if helpers were the only ones online at one time. Two possible solutions is either for helpers to not have permission to access these reports, or to allow them access so they can record + send the video into the staff discord. This allows a great opportunity for a helper to learn different gameplay/client rules and to show that they're dedicated to their position, and it can really help them stand out from other helpers. Despite these obvious perks though, this doesn't change the fact that with the way MCC is currently structured, having an ingame report command would get very messy, especially since it'd mainly be relevant on Skywars where it's difficult to track hackers anyway. This post is a bit long but because /report has been suggested so often over the years I wanted to try to give full insight on how /report could be successful, but also why it probably wouldn't be on MCC. If I remember correctly, MCC briefly had a /report command on KitPVP that we experimented with to get a general idea of how it would work. It was eventually removed, and it proved to not be as effective as we initially thought. I don't think it'd hurt to try again, as it could end up being very useful despite it's obvious downsides, but there are other things that should be prioritized first such as revamping minigames, sprucing up the subservers and various bug fixes. RIght now, forum reports are fine and reporting in discord is a good method of reporting for players that don't have the ability to record. It isn't a perfect system, but it's very difficult to come up with a perfect system without extensive planning and experimenting. MCC isn't a large enough server to worry about things like that.
I posted this exact same idea a little while back. It's certainly a much needed feature. Hopefully the staff will come to realize that eventually.
Yo flam :) I do agree it would be useful for us as players but staff would get overflooded by it. They are already so busy.
