After many months of silence, behind the scenes we have been battling it out to determine the future of our Factions server. I am glad to announce that things are looking extremely positive! With the return of payouts, shorter seasons and development back on track, Factions is officially back in action! This changelog will detail all changes big and small for our upcoming reset which will be dropping this upcoming weekend at exactly Friday 10th September (3pm MST).

To start things off with the essential information. Factions has shifted a lot over the past year. Shorter seasons and smaller roster sizes are now more prominent than ever before. We have decided to also go down this road (which has also been highly requested by the community). Essential details in regards to this upcoming season can be seen below:

    Essential Information
    # 8 Man Factions
    # 16 Hour Shields
    # 14 Day Seasons (5 Day Grace Period)
    # 3 Second Cannons
    # 15 Chunk Buffers
    # Cane & Obscure Zone Economy
    # Server Side Raid Alerts Enabled
    # $1125 Available In Payouts
    # No Allies / Truces

    Payout Information:
Of course, the controversial payouts. We are extremely proud to inform the community that payouts are back and will be sticking around for the forseeable future! With a shorter season duration, payouts are now bigger than ever. With a 14 day season length, payouts are no longer given out on a weekly basis (there will now be 1 reward at the end of the 2 week season). Next season we will have $1125 of prizes up for grabs. A full breakdown of payouts which players can expect to see next season can be viewed below.

    Dungeon Keys

The most notable change which players can expect to see next season is a vital change in the way we handle crate keys. In order to bring payouts back to Factions, this was a necessary change (to ensure that we respected Mojangs EULA). Ancient Keys and Mythical Keys no longer exist on Factions. These keys have been merged into a brand new type of key, known as a Dungeon key (available for purchase via our webstore). Dungeon keys are a new experience which allows players to summon a dungeon event which will contain 15 Mythical Chests throughout it. Opening these chests will reward you with the same old crate rewards that you know and love.

    Balancing Changes

Without vitally changing our Factions setup, having a future was not possible. As defined by Mojangs EULA, ranks are unable to give any competitive advantage (something which was far from reality in the past on our Factions server). All of the perks which were bundled with our ranks (which gave an advantage) have now been made accessible to all new players. Granted, this is quite a significant change, this does address a lot of balancing issues in regards to the server being nearly unplayable to new factions looking for a server to call their home. We look forward to a positive future on Factions where P2W is no longer prominent.

    Miscellaneous Changes

Next season brings with it some notable changes which players can expect to see. One of these changes includes a Raid Outpost Leaderboards. Located at the Raid Outpost spawn, players are now able to view the top 5 Factions which have controlled the Raid Outpost throughout the season. Other gameplay changes include the addition of a 'Basic Hoe' which is essentially a Harvest Hoe that is accessible to all players upon joining the server. Finally voting has received a much needed revamp and has been replaced with our brand new 'Voting Villager' which can be accessed at spawn.

    Conclusion

A lot of time has gone towards this Factions Reset. Having backed ourselves into a corner in regards to the EULA, everyone thought this was an impossible situation to escape from. We firmly believe that Factions has a much brighter future, where payouts can remain existing along with the competitive nature of the server. We look forward to seeing everyone attend SOTW this upcoming weekend! As always, enjoy.
