Hello. I started this thread to share some of my thoughts regarding what I've seen going on this season (and probs previous ones but I didn't play).

Currently, the island leader has ultimate power over island members. He can let anyone join and be protected by griefing, since he can claim at any time he wishes that a member griefed him and get them banned.

That's a good thing, don't get me wrong, but it has a twist.

Island leaders can essentially hold their members as hostages. You can, as a member, farm all day, have huge playtime and help the island grow hard, yet you have no rights over the growth you have contributed, and are at risk of getting kicked at any point without getting anything back.

In the old days, "griefing" by an island member wasn't considered griefing, thus island leaders had to take great care on who they let them join or not. Now this has been reversed, as even is top islands are open for players to join without any strict requirements.

This is a good thing for the current points/tokens meta. You need a full team farming hard to achieve anything.

So here's my idea for next season:

    • Allocate a certain percentage of the island value to each member.
Since player statistics are stored server-sided, a sort of algorithm could calculate how much a certain player has contributed on an island, both in terms of playtime/afk and blocks broken (farming).
That will give a sort of insurance to each player who is a member of a big island, that in case anything happens and he gets kicked, he can get his fair share or even a portion of it back.

    • Drop the token/point meta (or buff them significantly)
That will allow for even solo or duo islands to compete, since there will be no huge bottleneck by the current meta.

    • Remove the "griefing" rule by island members completely
This is the easiest but most risky move. Just revert it the way it was back in the day, and allow only good solid teams that trust each other to play and dominate the server. It should take huge effort and good rep to be able to join a significant island, by each individual member of it. As it is now, leaders are protected by any kind of player.

Hope I got my point across and imo it should be considered for next map.
Feel free to put any suggestions below.
    Cheers.

I agree with this post Fas! Island leaders have all the say over the island. There should be changes. As I do know some players who invite people, then kick them out after they place spawners/items. Theres too much power for island leaders, and I say it as an island leader myself.
    Love this!

I agree, it would be frustrating after putting a lot of time and effort into an island to be kicked by the leader. Ive seen this happen to many people on top islands and I think your idea revolving that would assure players that their work done on an island will be worth it even if they were kicked.

I agree on some points. My main complaint has to do with the member griefing rules on islands. If I wanted to leave the island I was currently on, I couldn't take any blocks or spawners I contributed without it being considered greifing which I believe is unfair. While I like the new function of only the person who placed it and the island leader being able to move spawners, I have seen this abused. One of my friends placed his spawners, they were subsequently mined and replaced in the same spot by the island leader, meaning that he couldn't move them anymore. While this is excellent in reducing griefing problems, it's also incredibly unfair to the person who actually put in the work to buy them.

That's 50/50 right. Depends on how u define the term "work". Selling with a sellwand imo is not work, so just staying online all day selling and placing spawners doesn't make u their owner, since u just sell from passive income. That's why statistics should be used to have an image of if a player has actually farmed anything or not.

I don't believe the griefing rule should be disbanded. The rules set out within this season have actually helped grow the community and create an extremely positive experience on skyblock for many players. I for one have loved my time here and I think getting rid of this rule would create less trust within the community not only with the caution of whether to invite players to an island or not but even in trading, scams, irl deals, ect. This could even lead to much more negative comments in the chat and overrule a more negative experience.

On the other hand, your ideas for presenting the island with percentages of contribution sounds amazing, although very difficult to code and make it work properly and smoothly. It's like creating a logging plugin for many different things and then having to make it represented to the players and keep it updating. But if this was implemented I think that would be amazing :D

    Hi there!

I think the "island owners are the rulers" should be removed, for the aforementioned reasons. Personally, I was griefed by my island leader, and lost stuff worth IRL money (chunk loaders, myth key rewards, etc). Even if ingame items still were owned by the island leader, I think that items bought with real currency should belong to the player and only the player, in an attempt to stop this taking place.
    Overall, +1 from me!

if there’s a way to monitor what people earn on an island to save them from losing what they contribute if they then decide to leave the island- i’m all for it!

So, second post to this thread because of new developments. Exactly what I described in my first post just happened to me about 10 minutes ago. My island leader decided he wanted to merge with someone else so he took everything from the island (blocks, spawners, things from chests, dragon eggs, etc.) and left. Granted, he took some of the team with him but not all of us were welcome on this new persons island. So now I'm definitely more firm on my opinion that island leaders being able to break and take whatever they wish without it being considered griefing is unfair.

I don't think that the griefing rule by island members should be removed completely, however I do think that if an island member takes things they placed themselves (chunk loaders, spawners, etc.) then it should not be considered griefing.

Personally I have never been griefed before, but I do want to say that this type of insurance needs to be added. Every contribution that a player has brought to an island must be returned because of the definition of 'labour'. Labour can be seen as a type of property that someone is entitled to. It's just unfair if the leader of the island kicks you after all the hard work you have put into the growth of the island. I think that the leader of an island must acknowledge the work of others on their island and give them back their brought 'property' (in this case defined as in-game items, labour, ..). Nevertheless, I want to say that although the members of an island take their belongings back in the absence of the leader which they are entitled to, they do should inform their leader before retrieving their stuff so that the leader has been informed right away and so that it does not look like stealing etc. I don't want to see the griefing rule to be removed at all, though, since there will always be people out there who will take everything from the island and grief everything (even the stuff they did not bring to the island like the possesions of the leader himself/herself).

    Yours Sincerely,
    Martijn
