1) Who's idea even was it to make Survival have a 1.12 backend? If you're going to update it why on earth wouldn't you go all the way to 1.14. 2) Also why will lower versions still be supported... There is absolutely no way you can make these lower versions able to function alongside all the new features with 100% stability. For example, how will 1.8 clients process any of the new end blocks? 3) Will the vanilla End be a thing? And also will the outer islands exist?
#1) 1.14 is extremely unstable, ask any server owner, this is not our fault this is Mojangs. #2) For reasons such as moderation, if a staff is quickly required to get on Survival without having to swap versions #3) Yes it will be a thing.
How will it be a thing though? Creative has like things replacing it like elytra in 1.8 creative is leather chest plate and grass paths go to grass etc but like how will that work on a game mode with limited resources without things being accidentally replaced and lost or will there be a different way?
We do not reccomend to play on 1.8 by any means, It is made possible by the following 2 plugins: https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/viarewind.52109/ https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/viabackwards.27448/ The plugins simply translate packets to be compatible with your client version, so things will look a bit wonky and have different blocks replacing others (the same way it has worked on Creative for the past few years).
Hang on I am confused, if you have 64 concrete in your inventory and it changes to another block on 1.8 will it be back to concrete on 1.12? @AlexMarkey
It doesnt literally change to another block, your client just displays it as a different block. So for example if you have 64 concrete, anyone on 1.8 will see that as 64 stone (for example), and anyone on 1.12 will see that as 64 concrete.
Those plugins helps players to connect with different versions, for example server version is 1.12, with via back people can join 1.12 below, however, if you are to be on 1.8.9, the blocks on 1.12 will look like regular blocks (Observers as dispensers, Magma Rack as nether rack), items will remain just differently (If you are on 1.8.9 and someone gives you Elytra, it will look like chest plate for you, items will remain but different for different version users asides from 1.12) Like Alex has said, 1.14 is very unstable, even to run a normal 1.14 server requires 3GB ram+ for 10 people. Not many plugins still support 1.14, even if they do they are buggy, 1.12 is considered as the best server version. From my experience.
To add to number 1, 1.13 and particularly 1.14 are crazy bad. We're just now getting versions of paper (a spigot fork) that are even making them somewhat viable. And snapshots for 1.15 show they've chosen bees over stability and restoring performance. When 1.14 came out, I ran a local survival server on regular spigot on a sandy bridge xeon and as much memory as it would take. Lag spikes and terrible performance with only 3 players. It has gotten better (thanks only to community efforts) and we're basically at the mercy of that. If mojang keeps ignoring MP, we'll have to wait for stuff like paper to fix it slowly. Right now 1.14 is not there yet, shit like hoppers still affects performance several times more than in even 1.12. I remember seeing a reddit post with a guy that had just a few villagers causing huge TPS drops with some really overkill hardware. Like 6 villagers dropping to below 10 tps when loaded. You cannot just throw more powerful servers at it. Unless you can find performance optimizations, there's only so many threads the game uses on a subserver and it's not as simple as adding more cores or memory, it's not easy to get better per thread performance. They could co-locate a box with prosumer/gamer CPUs that have higher clockrates with fewer cores (and overclock), spending a lot more and potentially giving up stability, error correcting memory, and have no service level agreement on the server itself with their host and MAYBE get 10-15% better performance over the best xeon options out there these hosts provide. Anyway to sum up, don't expect big servers like this to move near the latest version (if they're smart) unless mojang gives a shit about mp in java edition and not just bedrock. We're probably gonna be lagging behind a couple of versions for a long time. I'd really love to have 1.14, I love the updates they've made. Even 1.13 aquatic update would be cool. But I'll take shulker boxes and all the other stuff coming anyway over nothing.
It would look very weird. Basically all the structures will be the same shape but all the blocks will look different. Again we strongly advise to use 1.12.
You can test this with creative right now. Go to 1.12, place some new blocks on your plot, and keep them in your inventory. Load it again with 1.8. One of my favorites is shulker boxes. The plugin they use chose enderchests visually, and they do work like shulker boxes, but since enderchests are not quite a full block (and shulkers are) you get stuck on them if you walk near them. Your client tries to go slighly inside the block as you would with enderchests, the server says "no, there's a full block there" and you get sent back- kinda like you sometimes get stuck in melon when your client thinks you chopped one and the server doesn't. The server sending back to where you should be gets you stuck sometimes because things like gravity- walk on the top on theses shulker boxes in 1.8 and your client keeps trying to let you fall a few inches and the server keeps sending you back up from the direction you came. ^shulker box of each color it at least fully works, but I'd hope for an automated message about 1.12 for a few weeks when it starts.
Hey! Just wondering how does this work with armour enchanting. Will it be different enchants or just unenchanted armour. Just a question. Thanks again both of you <3 Have a Nice Day All The Best ___Sean___ MCC Community Member
I am not too sure of the answer but this will really depends if the enchantments functionality will remain or not, usually it should work / remain but maybe buggy or not working at all, this will really depend if there will be other plugins like "enchantment control etc"
