    Hello, Bubbagump here.
Does anyone actually think that economy should be a part of survival? It's NOT a pvp server although there is a lot of pvpers on there. It's NOT a skyblock server so why should we be grinding farms for spawners or money?
It's a SURVIVAL server the point is to survive NOT to have millions and sit in pvp with P5 and stack of gaps because you have nothing else to do. I liked survival back when there was no economy because you actually had to mine for diamonds to pay for things and it made voting a thing you needed to do since it gives you diamonds. A lot of the old players of survival have quit since they added economy because it's just not fun when you have to sit around with a harvest hoe farming crops all day just to get some spawners. I would really like to see something done about this I've been making posts like these since survival became an economy server and I always hope that something's gonna change but it never does. Whenever the next reset is I hope this post is taken into account and not swept under the rug and forgotten even though I know it probably will.
    thanks for reading this shit

i don't like having economy on servers. like you said, it takes away the survival aspect of a survival server. you can just buy what you want and not have to do any work with the right connections. i wish there'd be a seperate economy server with classic survival being a seperate one. no hate to the current survival, i still play it here and there, just would like it without economy. but what can you do.

i agree that an economy on survival doesn’t really make sense and i feel like it really shouldn’t have a place here... but also, i don’t think they would revert back to how it was many seasons ago since economy had been around for about over two years or soemthing now.
survival isn’t survival anymore. in my opinion it’s almost like a mix of skyblock and prison. since skyblock is an endless sweat for money and more money, and prison is pvp driven and plots and spawners... as you mentioned survival shouldn’t mainly be bout pvp and economy.
i feel that survival should be bout community. as cheesy as it sounds.. i mean more ‘bout trading and collecting things, building, or whatever... kinda like a single player survival world... idk..
bottom line is, i agree economy should go or at least be less op, since i doubt markey would take out economy

I believe it should stay. The survival server is more then just that. it's a grand social experience. A way to showcase one's creativity with limited resources and meet up with randos the do the same or just explore. A major part of this co-op play style is the ability to share or trade with each other. So the economy is just an advanced bartering system. a means to let players trade their wares even when offline. Savvy?

"The survival server is more then just that it's a grand social experience. A way to showcase one's creativity with limited resources" You don't need an economy to for this. The overall gameplay of survival hasnt changed much since economy was added the only main change is that people now grind out spawners and grind farms. People still used creativity back then, it was actually much more back there were so much more flamboyant builds back then. And "So the economy is just an advanced bartering system" I mean it's not bartering it was bartering in the past before economy was added. Bartering is when you trade items for other items what we have now is a trade economy the trade of money for items and one thing that made it different was that you had to wait for someone to come on to trade with them or you had to get it yourself if you couldn't fine them. Not just go to their custom ph name like /p h shop and buy from their shop while they're offline.

It is always great to see posts like this in the Survival discussion, and thank you for sharing your ideas Bubbagump.

Every time I see posts like this, I start to wonder about what the gameplay on the server was like before money was added. I didn't know how the server was like back then since I joined the server during season 5. I'm curious about the earlier Survival seasons, and I'm always more than happy to know more about it :).

    Currently, it seems
unlikely that money will be removed next season. Money is essentially a tool for players to do trades easily. To talk about money, let's first have a look at what it does and how it works. All the money in the server is obtained in one of the following ways: Selling crops, mob drops, ores, wood, or fish to /shop; completing quests; opening keys; envoys or boss battles; killing other players in PVP, or new players joining the server (250 per new player). The total amount of money will only decrease if one of the following happens: Players buy spawners from /shop; banknotes get cleared or destroyed; or players with a balance stop playing. At the same time, most players will only want money if they can use it to purchase items. This chain of purchasing items needs to start somewhere, and in this case, buying spawners from /shop is the motivation.

If money gets removed from the server, then here comes the question of whether something else will play the same role or not. One of the key factors is whether it interacts with /shop in a similar way or not. Suppose diamonds take the role of money and they can be used to buy spawners, and can be obtained by selling drops, crops, etc to /shop, then they are essentially the same as money, with the exceptions that trades between different players will become inconvenient. In particular, trades involving highly valued items will become more difficult. Also, selling or buying items using chest shops will become difficult, and that means it is hard to trade items when offline. The auction house will face issues as well (if not, then players are purchasing items using diamonds without having to meet and do /trade, which means diamonds are basically diamond-shaped money). All of these inconveniences will change the gameplay a lot, and the gameplay might turn out to be more like single-player games since trades are hard to find and difficult to do. I personally do not like this inconvenience, but I know different people have different ways of enjoying the server and some players might like that way better. This case basically comes down to whether trades should be convenient or not, and it would be nice if the community gives more opinions on it.

If diamonds can't be used to buy spawners, which are the only items sold in /shop, then they are not that useful. Survival doesn't need diamonds as much as it seems to, because ranked players are able to get kits (diamond armors, swords, and tools) of their rank and lower ranks once every two days. In this case, if the current ways to make money give out diamonds, then there will soon be way too many diamonds that make them nearly worthless. If they don't give out diamonds, then there are many cases to consider and it gets complicated. It is possible to work out some interesting game modes from here, and it is too much to discuss in this post. At the same time, access to at least some spawners is necessary in the game, because clearlag removes mobs which makes non-spawner mob farms impossible or very inefficient. If spawners cannot be purchased, then there needs to be other ways to introduce spawners to the game. If spawners can only be obtained from keys or envoys, they will become treasure items. Since spawners are relatively rare, people will be more willing to trade more items for mob drops, which will benefit spawner owners, most of whom are players with lots of keys. This is not enough to conclude that the server might become more pay to win, but that might be a possibility (Oh right, what's "winning" at that time since we don't have money anymore? Also, being the richest player doesn't mean "winning the game".)

If diamonds can be used to buy spawners, but players can no longer sell crops, mob drops, etc to /shop, then the number and size of farms and spawner farms will reduce by a lot.
Mining will become a lot more popular, especially earlier in the season when spawners are rare and mob drops can trade for many items. At the same time, xrayers will become a lot more common as well. In fact, mining will be so much more "profitable" than other methods that currently make money that most players will focus mainly on mining, which will reduce the diversity of the gameplay and make it monotonous or boring. This will change when the server has enough spawners that mining isn't that "profitable" anymore. Overall this kind of gameplay doesn't seem like a very enjoyable one, since there is "the best way" to make more "profits", which ruined one of the most enjoyable aspects of Survival: the diversity in gameplay and the freedom to do what you like to do without ending up "poorer" than others who played in the most "profitable" way.

    The gameplay
can change in many ways after the removal of money, and it is impossible to discuss all the cases here. Most cases should all fit in one of the situations discussed above though. Personally I prefer the server with money, because of the convenience of shops, trades and the auction house. For the same reason, I think it is unlikely that money will be removed from the server, since money has been introduced to the server many seasons ago and most players are used to this convenience (chest shops, the auction house, etc). The game will also probably become more similar to a single-player game if trades become hard to do. Also, in the cases where diamonds do not take the role of money, so many things in the game need to be redesigned to make sure the game is well balanced with diverse gameplay and enough freedom for people to play it in their preferred ways. This will be a big change to the server, which requires a lot of work, and it will not necessarily improve the gameplay or increase its popularity, and thus it is unlikely to happen.

Here are my thoughts, and I hope they are helpful. Have a good day or night.

    Hey!

As good as the olden days were we can't really change it now as it would not work out at all.

Everything they have added like /ah, /shop, boss, envoys, keys, chest shops, quests ect will all have to be removed if we were to get rid of money.

If we never got rid of no money there would be 100% more things that would have updated with the trading systems ect.

Getting rid of money would be chucking Years worth of helpful ideas and great thoughts, tonne of hard work, effort, plugins ect into a bucket and chucking it down the steepest cliff in the nether that goes to the widest lava pool in existence.

We don't need to do all this just for good old nostalgic times of Survival.

I won't see this being added and I am a -1 to this idea but thank you for making a discussion on the Survival Forums.

Adding on, a lot of people bring up that Survival isn't really well Survival, however it is a mix of SMP (Mining), Prison (Plots and Grinders) Skyblock (Farming) and KitPvP (/warp pvp with kits)

It isn't 100% vanilla survival either its just a survival like gamemode with many addons.

    Thats all from me :)

    Have a Nice Day
    All The Best

Well, my thoughts were more that there would be no shop like how it used to be. If there's no money system then what's the need for a shop?

I think survival should be sort of based like 2b2t exept no hacking and other obvious rules. It should be a survival word no kits no perks no anything pvp is on and thats it. There is pvp for those that want map domination you can build your secretive base and stuff. I personally think this would be a lot more fun that it currently is.

Now I have been playing on this server for almost 6 years now, been a part of it for quite a while. I remember when survival first got here and i'm not gonna lie, I hated it because it was just so boring. I didn't like to have to vote everyday and go around and dig diamonds, I just thought it was very boring. I understand the reasons on why people don't like having an economy on survival, I don't agree with them, but I understand where the people don't like it are coming from. They want it to be just like a normal sub-server where you have to survive. I feel that when they added an economy to the sub-server, it actually helped it. I feel that when you are there harvesting or fishing, you're actually getting something in return. I also like seeing what people do with their shops and how they look and what different prices people have on certain items. I personally feel that having this economy is just a better thing for the sub-server itself, so I hope that it stays. But after all, this is just my opinion, and I wanted to share it with all of you.
