    Hey Grady!

    There are 4 achievable staff ranks;
    • Helper - Focuses on moderating chat, with no permissions to ban players.
    • Moderator - More permissions to allow effective moderation; such as ban permissions & core inspect.
    • Senior Moderator - Trusted with commands that involve IPs, more severe punishments and more powerful moderating tools.
    • Administrator - Keeps the staff team and the community organized and functional. Their duties are more behind the scenes.
    Helper is considered a "trial" for Moderator rank. After 2 months, you are evaluated by the Mentor & Administrative team and a decision is made on whether you are ready for the promotion (most likely than not you will receive a promotion). Senior Moderator is the next achievable rank - it is obtainable by excelling as a Moderator. The decision for this promotion is also decided by the Mentor & Administrative team.

    Hopefully this has answered your question!

    Is there a time duration like as helper you are evaluated during the 2 months and so you may be promoted or not with moderator? Or is it just whenever an admin feels like you're ready for senior moderator? I am also curious about how it would be for getting promoted to administrator. What happens?

    Hey there Alpha.

    From my experience, and from what I've seen throughout the time I've been around on the server, there is no set amount of time that you have to be a Mod for in order to achieve the Senior Moderator rank. Some people get it after a year as staff, some get it after 6 months, it is not constant whatsoever. The keyword here would be "performance", thus if you are exceeding the mentor team's expectations as a Moderator, and impressing the Admins with your hard work and commitment to the server, you will have a higher chance of getting promoted.

    Regarding your second question related to a possible promotion to Admin - which I am not as qualified to address, but will try my best - things are somewhat similar to any other promotion. If you are showing excellence as a Senior Moderator, namely being extremely active, or simply maintaining your level of activity, getting into various sub-teams, and overall doing an amazing job at your duties, the Admin team and Alex will recognize the fact that you are trustworthy and could be stepping up, helping the server in a more hands-on approach, such as dealing with issues outside Minecraft per se.

    Hope this answers your question.

    The only instance in which someone gets promoted past Helper at the beginning of their term (ex. gets Mod the day they are promoted to staff) is if they are returning staff. Similarly, if someone is returning staff and the mentors/admins deem them suitable, they can be promoted early. This is a fairly rare process and decided on a case-by-case basis by the admins and mentors.

    The way the Helper process works is mainly through reviews. Every promotion day you get to take a review which you can either pass or fail. Once you have hit 5 reviews, this is usually when the admins and mentors begin to assess your work over the last two months and decide if you are to become a Moderator or stay Helper for the time being. If they think you're not ready yet, you will be granted an opportunity to take upto 3 more reviews. If you are not promoted after your 8th review, you will be demoted.

    Moderators have the opportunity to join more subteams and deal with more situations as staff, such as banning hackers. The criteria for Mod promotions are few and far in between; just be active, help out as best you can and do well on your reviews. Meeting these criteria immediately doesn't mean you'll get Mod on the spot, of course; as I mentioned above, early promotions are pretty much reserved for returning staff.

    Senior Moderator promotions are based on a variety of factors, such as how many SrMods there are covering your timezone, your personal performance as Mod and the size of the team. If there are 50 staff members and only 4 SrMods, with no one covering your timezone, you are more likely to get the rank just because there should be a SrMod available to cover most timezones. As mentioned above, SrMods have more perms and different expectations from the Admins.

    Finally, Administrator promotions are very rare and usually occur when a current Admin resigns. These promotions are usually based off of a lot of criteria, such as how trustworthy a staff member is, what subteams they are on (for example, someone on Mentor Team is highly trusted and a good candidate for an admin promotion) and what area they live in. Ideally, admins should be sort of spread out so they can cover multiple timezones. Admins are responsible for running the show behind-the-scenes and leading staff subteams, which is a huge deal - therefore, their requirements are much different than other staff members. Finally, it's important to note admins usually stay in their roles for a long time - the currently longest-serving Admin is Teddzy, who's been staff since 2015 and Admin since 2017.

    Hopefully, this post has helped you understand the roles of staff and how they are selected for promotion a bit more. I am an ex-mod (I just resigned about a week ago) so I believe this information is relevant and up-to-date. However, if that is not the case please do correct me! Don't forget to meet the application requirements before you consider applying. Thanks for reading and have a nice day.

    Have to beat a staff member above you in pvp. Winner moves up loser moves down.
