Hey I wanted to post a thread I recently made on the old forums, and updated it with new things. However I can't post it now as there is a 20.000 character limit. I asked Timppali about this and he said that it was also the limit on the old forums. But I guess now that I updated it again I just went over this limit. My question is: can this please be raised to maybe 25.000 or even a bit higher. So I and other people with longer threads can post it? I want to post the command list I made again https://mccentralarchive.enjin.com/...read/32765449-complete-command-list-mccentral
The character limit on the old forums was in place for a while although I'm not sure how long. You can always split your post up into 2 posts and have it still make sense. If the character limit can be increased then that'd definitely be a great option, but if it isn't possible then splitting your command list might be the best way to go about it if you can't reduce your word count.
I was thinking about screenshotting the preview you can see and screenshotting it. However it's going to be way harder to update the list if there are new commands
Another option would be to create a google doc (it’s free) and post a link on here to it. That way you can post all the information that you want, and it would potentially be easier to read than on the forums, as the forums are designed for shorter responses. Hope this helps! To continue this thought, you could post some basic information then have a document that gives more detailed descriptions. Posting screenshots is another option, and you can use the google doc to update the information and take new screenshots. At the very least, if increasing the character limit doesn't work out, there are other options. You can still get creative in a document, and you can even still include pictures and fancy text.
The character limit can absolutely be changed in the settings inside of Xenforo. While I think 20,000 is a safe spot when it comes to the character limit if people are unable to make these longer, useful threads - I am sure we should increase it. As TNT stated, you can just make the posts in two posts and still make it look quite good, if not about the same that it would be normally with one post. Maybe the character limit can be changed per sub-forum - like a higher count inside of the guides section, for example as guides tend to be a lot longer than just your everyday posts.
Definitely agree with this 100% percent. Subforums such as the old “off-topic” one only had 1 sentence posts, so the highest word count could he changed to something even lower.
The 20k character limit is perfectly acceptable. If goes longer, then split it up and add the rest of the information as a reply on the thread. I'm sure the staff team should be okay with that.
This wouldn't really change anything though, since regular members don't have permission to post in FAQ. They would still need to make it in General Discussion or something and have a staff member move it there.
This was purely for example purposes, maybe it wasn't a good one? Sorry about that. I just meant certain posts tend to be longer than others, per sub-forum.
If I had to take a guess on how many posts on average would hit 20k, I would say 7 in every 1000 posts on the forums.
